Q: Why is AmerenUE providing these programs?

A: Because of our commitment to energy efficiency, we’re making a long-term investment in programs that will help residential customers reduce their energy consumption. Across the nation, utility companies, like ours, are taking a very serious look at the potential benefits of energy efficiency programs. These programs help customers reduce their utility bills and help the environment by reducing the number of kilowatthours we must generate. Less power use reduces emissions and the stress on our delivery and generation systems. Our goal is to reduce electricity consumption growth through a combination of customer efficiency initiatives, consumer education programs like UEfficiency.com, and equipment upgrades/replacement over the next 20 years.

Q: What is UEfficiency.com?

A: UEfficiency.com is home to a suite of energy efficiency programs designed to help AmerenUE residential electric customers reduce their energy consumption and save money on their energy bills. For information about all the programs, CLICK HERE

Q: What is an Energy Efficient Measure (EEM)?

A: EEMs are installations and actions you can take to save energy at your home. They can be as simple as turning off lights when not in use, or using energy efficient lighting and appliances.

Q: What is the AmerenUE Lighting and Appliance Program?

A: The primary goal of this program is to encourage greater usage of energy efficient products that provide our residential electric customers the same service, at a lower total cost, through lower energy usage. We’re sharing the benefits of using ENERGY STAR® qualified products in your home, and we’re partnering with local retailers to ensure these products are easily available and accessible.

Q: What is ENERGY STAR®?

A: ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) designed to help the public save money and protect the environment through the use of energy efficient products and practices. You can learn more about ENERGY STAR by visiting www.energystar.gov.

Q: What are the benefits of using ENERGY STAR® qualified products?

A: ENERGY STAR qualified products meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and U.S. Department of Energy. Without any sacrifice in performance, these products help you save money on energy bills and protect the environment.

Q: What is a Retail Partner?

A: A Retail Partner is a retail business approved to participate in the program by selling qualifying ENERGY STAR® qualified products from a storefront located in the AmerenUE electric service territory.

Q: How will this program help me save money and reduce my energy usage?

A: ENERGY STAR® qualified products use the most efficient technology available, dramatically reducing the amount of energy used when compared to non-ENERGY STAR® qualified products. Replacing old appliances and lighting with the latest, most efficient products will save significant amounts of energy. And dollars, too.

Q: Do I have to make a purchase to participate in the program?

A: Yes. By purchasing ENERGY STAR® qualified products such as lighting and home appliances, you are making an investment in your personal energy savings and an important contribution to save energy in the state of Missouri.

Q: Will I get a rebate?

A: Though you won’t see a check in the mail, you will see savings each month with the overall reduction of your home’s energy usage. The more ENERGY STAR® products you use, the more you save. CLICK HERE to look for special promotions at our participating retailers.

Q: If I see an ENERGY STAR® label on a lighting or appliance product, what does that mean?

A: The ENERGY STAR designation is given to products that use less energy than other products of the same category, without sacrificing performance. ENERGY STAR qualified products are held to strict standards of performance and efficiency. In addition, the ENERGY STAR label is trusted—its mark ranks among the highest level of influence on product purchase among all consumer emblems, similar in ranking to the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.

Q: I have seen a yellow Energy Guide label attached to new appliances in retail showrooms. What does it mean?

A: The Energy Guide label gives you two important pieces of information you can use to compare different brands and models when shopping for a new appliance:

  • 1. Estimated energy consumption on a scale showing a range for similar models.
  • 2. Estimated yearly operating cost based on the national average cost of electricity.
You can view a sample picture of an Energy Guide label on the U.S. Department of Energy’s website:
